Corynopuntia deinacantha D. Donati (Cactaceae), is described and illustrated from the state of Coahuila, northeastern Mexico.
It is morphologically similar to Corynopuntia grahamii (Engelm.) F.M. Knuth and Corynopuntia aggeria
(Ralston & Hilsenb.) M.P. Griff., but it differs in body size, some
traits, and ecology. Diagnostic morphological characters from related
taxa are discussed and organized in a taxonomic key. Information on
species ecology, karyology, biogeography and demography is also
provided.
