Corynopuntia halophila

A new halophilous–gypsicolous species of Corynopuntia, C. halophila (Cactaceae), is described and illustrated from the state of Coahuila, north-eastern Mexico. It is morphologically similar to the diploid Corynopuntia moelleri, but it differs by some traits, such as body size and some unusual morphological features which are here reported for the first time; there are also ecological and karyological differences, as the latter study revealed that C. halophila is a polyploid with 2n = 44 chromosomes. Diagnostic morphological characters from similar taxa are discussed and arranged in a taxonomic key. Knowledge of the species ecology, biogeography, demography and conservation status is also provided.

Stenocereus huastecorum

The Stenocereus griseus species complex (SGSC) has long been considered taxonomically challenging because the number of taxa belonging to the complex and their geographical boundaries remain poorly understood. Bayesian clustering and genetic distance-based methods were used based on nine microsatellite loci in 377 individuals of three main putative species of the complex. The resulting genetic ...

Corynopuntia deinacantha

Corynopuntia deinacantha D. Donati (Cactaceae), is described and illustrated from the state of Coahuila, northeastern Mexico.
It is morphologically similar to Corynopuntia grahamii (Engelm.) F.M. Knuth and Corynopuntia aggeria (Ralston & Hilsenb.) M.P. Griff., but it differs in body size, some traits, and ecology. Diagnostic morphological characters from related taxa are discussed and organized in a taxonomic key. Information on species ecology, karyology, biogeography and demography is also provided.
